Psychologists

Kristin Buhr, Ph.D., R.Psych. (Director)

 

Dr. Kristin Buhr is a Registered Psychologist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in adults and adolescents. She has training and expertise in treating generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, specific phobias, health anxiety, and depression. She uses a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) approach, which has been shown to be a highly effective treatment for mood and anxiety problems.

In addition to her private practice at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, Dr. Buhr works as a consultant for Anxiety B.C. (www.anxietybc.com) providing lectures and workshops, and developing self-help materials for adults and adolescents including website content and an educational DVD series. She is also a Psychological Associate in Dr. William Koch's forensic practice. Dr. Buhr has numerous scientific publications and presentations in the area of psychopathology, with an emphasis on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder. She has presented her work at various national and international conferences. Her research interests focus on understanding factors involved in the development and maintenance of GAD, as well as developing and refining psychological treatments for social anxiety disorder.

Dr. Buhr received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University, Montreal. She completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority with a focus on the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders. During her residency, she received additional training in the delivery of community-based treatment programs, emergency inpatient psychiatry, as well as the treatment of personality disorders. Her clinical training has also included placements in child and family psychiatry and specialized anxiety disorder clinics. Dr. Buhr also coordinated the Social Anxiety Treatment Program in the Psychology Department at the University of British Columbia.
