Sarah Newth,
Ph.D., R.Psych.
Dr. Sarah Newth is a
registered psychologist who specializes in the management of anxiety,
worry, mood, chronic pain and stress-related health problems. The main
focus of her clinical practice is cognitive-behavioural treatment (CBT)
for children, teens or adults coping with anxiety disorders. Examples
include obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder,
panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress
disorder, agoraphobia, separation anxiety disorder, and specific
phobias.
Dr. Newth received her PhD in clinical psychology from the Department
of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Her dissertation
examined the role of cognitive and behavioural coping strategies among
individuals coping with chronic pain. She has also published research
in the areas of anxiety, mood, stress and chronic pain. Dr. Newth
completed a one-year residency at UBC Hospital through the Vancouver
Coastal Health Authority. Her residency included specialized training
in evidence based treatment of anxiety and mood disorders with
supplemental rotations at the Health Psychology Clinic, Inpatient
Psychiatry, Alzheimer’s Clinic and St. Paul’s Eating Disorder
program,.
Dr. Newth previously worked as the Director of Programs for Anxiety
BC. She authored the Anxiety Disorders Toolkit and several Wellness
Modules on behalf of the BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions
Information. She is a past member of the Clinical Faculty in the
Department of Psychiatry at UBC and worked as a diagnostician and
therapist at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at UBC Hospital. Dr. Newth
provides evidence based workshops to mental health professionals
working with children, youth or adults coping with anxiety disorders.
She frequently partners with various community based groups to provide
educational seminars to individuals and families coping with mental
health problems. Dr. Newth has also served on a number of expert
advisory committees including the British Columbia Medical Association
“Anxiety and Depression in Children and Youth Working Group” and the
Ministry of Children and Family Development “Anxiety Strategy Advisory
Group”. |
