Dr. Serene Qiu, R.Psych.

Dr. Serene Qiu is a Registered Psychologist (#2880) specializing in the treatment of trauma-related difficulties in adults. She developed an interest and expertise in Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related issues while working at the Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic Fredericton, where she provided assessment and treatment for trauma to veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). She is a registered provider for the RCMP and Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC). She is a registered provider for the RCMP and Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC) and Crime Victims Assistance Program (CVAP)

Dr. Qiu has specialized training and experience in evidence-based treatments for trauma. She is trained in both Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, treatment protocols that have been shown by research to be effective and considered best practices for PTSD. More broadly, she draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and she collaborates with her clients to tailor treatment to their unique needs. Her goal is to help her clients come to terms with trauma, make sense of it, and find resolution to it.

Dr. Qiu completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC), receiving training in both adolescent and adult assessment and therapy. She completed clinical training placements at Vancouver General Hospital - Concurrent Disorders Inpatient Unit and Kelty’s Key Online CBT Program, St Paul’s Hospital - Chronic Pain Program, UBC Hospital - BC Psychosis Unit, UBC Clinic, Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) - Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMH), BC’s Children’s Hospital, Vancouver Anxiety Centre, and DBT Centre of Vancouver. She completed a full-time Canadian Psychological Association-accredited predoctoral residency at Horizon Health NB, where she provided a wide range of assessments and individual and group treatments for adolescents, adults, and parents on the Inpatient Psychiatry rotation (Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital), Child and Youth rotation (Integrated Service Delivery for Children, Youth & Families, Government of NB), Neuropsychology rotation (Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation), and the OSI Clinic rotation.
