Services for New Parents

Adding a new baby or child to your family is a special and exciting experience. However, for many women and their families, it can also be a stressful and exhausting time of life. Normal routines are disrupted, sleep is hard to come by, and other close relationships may change all while the mother does her best to care for the new addition to the family. Many women experience shifts in their well-being, ranging from short-lived “baby blues” all the way through to more long-lasting issues with postpartum depression or anxiety.  We can help you navigate the challenges of new parenthood and more fully enjoy this special time.

Our team of competent and caring professionals have years of experience in helping women and their families with common challenges during pregnancy and the postpartum. Working together with your psychologist, you will learn powerful techniques based on the principles of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) that will help you to:
●  Balance the needs of your baby and family with taking care of your own needs
●  Reduce worry about your pregnancy and your baby
●  Reduce upsetting thoughts or images about harm coming to your baby
●  Feel less overwhelmed
●  Reduce doubts and increase confidence in your parenting abilities
●  Ask for the support that you need (from people in your life and publicly available resources)

The first step towards feeling better is to meet with your psychologist so that she can better understand your unique situation and needs. Then your psychologist will guide you step-by-step through the process of learning effective coping skills. If you wish, you can invite your partner or loved ones to some of your sessions so that they can better understand what you are going through and how they can better support you. You are also welcome to bring your baby or little one to your sessions. Learning the skills to feel happier and healthier is one of the best investments you can make for the well-being of both yourself and your family.
